Academic Integrity Policy Attestation: By typing my name in the box to the right, I attest and affirm that I have watched the entire Academic Integrity tutorial and will comply with the Academic Integrity Policy of Chamberlain College of Nursing. Answer: Kimberly Morton
Academic Integrity Question #1:What is one example of plagiarism that was mentioned in the Chamberlain Academic Integrity Tutorial? Answer: One of the examples of plagiarism that was mentioned in the tutorial was submitting another person’s work as your own.  This is a deliberate act of cheating because the person knowingly submitted work that they did not complete.  Its dishonest and goes against the five core values of integrity.  We as adults and nurses have a responsibility to be honest in our scholastic work as we do in our actual jobs.  It is important that we do our own research and take the time to complete our own assignments in order to expand what we learn.
Academic Integrity Question #2:Other than not sharing passwords, what is one way students can avoid plagiarism that was mentioned in the Chamberlain Academic Integrity Tutorial?Answer: Denying others access to your computer can help prevent plagiarism.  We keep old papers saved in our computers that are not locked and can be easily access.  It is also important not to save your work on public computers.  Others can easily plagiarize your work and both parties can be punished if it is undetermined who was in the wrong.  Another way to avoid plagiarism while writing your paper is to summarize what you read and put it in your own words.  This helps to ensure that not only you understood what was read but that you are not copying the text word for word.  It is also wise to include the source at the end of your summary so credit is given.
Self-Evaluation: Challenges (see Rubric)What are your greatest challenges with time management? Answer: Some of my greatest challenges with time management are time management, prioritizing, and sticking to my schedule.  I have a tight schedule with two jobs and taking care of my daughter.  Since I just returned to school I resigned from one of my jobs which will take effect next week. But the first 2 weeks have been a juggling act working 6 days a week.  It try carve out time at least 4 days a week to get my work done. I do a little reading on my lunch breaks and while my daughter is in dance class.  I use the Chamberlin app majority of the time to read and respond to my classmate’s discussion posts.  When I am home I use that time for posting my full discussion response and work on assignments.  It’s been a little rough and quite an adjustment, but I am hoping for some extra time to free up once my work schedule goes from 6 days a week to 4.  I am trying my best not to disturb my daughter routine and also spend as much quality time with her while getting my degree. My time management skills have been a little better since I write out my plans for the week, but my problem is I leave little room for the unexpected. As of now, my daughter is in summer break which makes out evening routine less hectic without homework.  She has a summer packet that she is able to complete on her own which is great for me.  I also don’t spend enough time taking care of me.  I am lacking in my 30 minutes to exercise.  I have been too tired to wake up 30 minutes early to work out.  Again, I anticipate this will get better with my new schedule. With my time management issues, I also need to prioritize what’s important. Just making time for work and school is not healthy for me.  I need to incorporate self-health/pampering along with doing more activities with my daughter instead of leaving mother and daughter day for just Sundays.  If I wake up an hour earlier I can do my readings and discussion post to free up some evening time to hang out with my daughter. Lastly with making changes to my time management I need to stick to these changes.  I usually make a schedule and end up changing them mid-week which causes me to become overwhelmed and get less sleep at night.  I run late getting off work which makes me run late picking up my daughter, making dinner, and starting my course work.  Sometimes these things are unavoidable, but I need to say no sometimes when asked to cover someone in order for me to accomplish what I need for me and my family.
Self-Evaluation: Strategies (see Rubric)What effective strategies will you use to overcome these challenges?HINT: Review New Student Orientation and SSPRNBSN (Student Success Strategies resource) for ideas. Answer: One of the strategies that I will incorporate to improve my time management skills is to start using a planner.  I will start my new week on Sundays planning out my week and prioritizing what is important for me to accomplish first.  I know some weeks I am going to need more time for course work than others, so I will go by my assignments whether I need an extra day for course work.I will also attempt not to overwhelm my self by working extra shifts when I know my school schedule will not allow me too.  I will allow myself to have some down time in between work and school to have a more relaxed environment to read and work on projects. And most importantly I will stay motivated by engaging with other students who are focused.  Reading my fellow classmates discussion posts helps gives me insight about other nurses experiences that I can take from and maybe strive to achieve for myself.
