Microsoft Teams, Machine Learning, and the Internet of Things (IoT) have been the biggest educational technology trends of 2020. Nevertheless, distance learning has become the biggest trend that conquered them all. The unfortunate Coronavirus pandemic has extremely altered the way schools and hospitals learn and teach. Nursing staff and generalized students now adapt to distance learning via computer and internet platforms due to mandated social distancing. Even though some schools have reopened, and things are slowly getting back to normal, this movement will most likely continue until the end of 2022 (Vergés Bausili, 2021). The up-to-date educational technology trends in 2021, and more into 2022 are being transformed with an even stronger focus on versatility, connectivity, and student-centered education. This assessment is to evaluate the growth and development of our organization’s technology-based nursing education program. In addition, we will formulate a plan to educate our staff while following Center of Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. It is important for our facilities nurse educators to ensure the values are comparatively in line with our organization’s goals, vision, and mission. Our healthcare facilities, our staff, and nursing students need to mirror and adapt to the evolving change of educational technology and initiate and create a discussion regarding its impression on the organization.

Incorporated Education Technology changes in our Program

Our organizations normal workflow for staff education classes are typically face to face- with the staff educator leading the ship. However, since the Covid-19 pandemic threw a curveball to the world and many businesses, we needed to alter the way of educating our staff and students. Virtual classes are an existing example of technology being used for businesses adapting to this pandemic- still instilling educational philosophy, theories, and strong educational design. One recommendation that can be useful for our facilities to benefit from educational technology and still educate our staff is to incorporate Microsoft Teams into our organization’s workflow. Initially launched as a platform for corporations and industries, Microsoft Teams has gone through numerous alterations and modifications, and is now a practical platform for hospital educational use (Vergés Bausili, 2021). Microsoft Teams- an education platform for all virtual learners, uses the same basic platform that virtual remote workers can use, only personalized to hospitals and nursing schools. The platform offers virtual collaboration space in where nursing educators can engage with the staff exchange notes, live or text chats, conferences, projects, and even application sharing from third parties. This educational technology change can be incorporated into the design of our current education program by the  nurse educators generating groups for specific departments to educate different classes. We can also expand and invite groups if other units want to be a part of the education. For instance, we can use Microsoft Teams to create classes for our Emergency Room department staff to educate about sepsis patients and the interventions. If the staff have any questions regarding the Inservice, the nurse educator can give a live response, simulating as if they class was face to face. If the ICU department would like to attend the class, a subgroup can be formed, extending the classroom educations with 1 click of a button. Within these assemblies, it’s easy to share resources, collaborate on plans together, initiate project plans, and have it all interconnected live via the verbal and camera feed. National standards for evidence best practices in remote nursing education has been determined grounded on guidelines of our organization and other institutions in higher education and nursing (Vergés Bausili, 2021). This avenue of learning will help our nurse educators become well informed about the new remote-based technology and how it can be useful when driven by our hospital’s academic goals of the courses. With Microsoft Teams, learning outcomes can be completed, socialization between coworkers can arise, and nurse clinical skills can be given with a organized curriculum in place (Huryx, 2017).

Our Mission and Vision with Educational Technology

Microsoft Teams aligns with our mission and vision because within the application, our nurse educators can rapidly converse with our staff, share ideas and critically think together. Key features in Teams allow nursing educators to establish interactive lessons and provide effective and timely feedback. The mission statement of our association is to develop all our healthcare professionals, staff, and students nursing knowledge through innovated healthcare technologies- to develop energetic nurse leaders to improve the well-being of all individuals, including the diverse, underserved, and rural populations. Our vision is to positively impact the health of humanity through the excellence in research, nursing and staff education, practice, and pristine service. We will continually thrive to become a powerfully engaged collection of vastly qualified educators and professionals which will prepares our healthcare staff and students who will signify a culture of empathy and medical care. Our organization will continue to generate a positive learning environment where information is evidence-based practices are created and shared- which will give optimal health care to all patients and delivers leadership in the development of the nursing profession. Essay MSN FPX 6109 Vila Health: Educational Technology Needs Assessment KP

Impact of Education Technology Changes

How does modern technology effect standard learning? Some old school nursing educators look at technology as an intrusion to the classroom- they may look at remote learning technology as a pointless tool for the classroom setting. Like it or not technology on smart devices and computers are the way of the future, classes on computers are here and they are not going away. The older generation educators have to adapt and understand that the new technological advancements can do more good than harm. Utilization, benefits, and the power of electronic devices have been shown to enhance student engagement, encourage student collaboration, initiate logical innovation, and increase student knowledge (Dack & Roe, 2019). Alone, nursing education with technology doesn’t always result in effective learning and teaching, it still involves direction and guidance from the nurse educator and a purposeful agenda related to the curriculum and course. This impact of remote learning through technology requires some effort from educators to incorporate keen skills to successfully develop adequate course material. If our resources combined with Microsoft Teams are used with good intention, our organization can see that it is a successful teaching asset.

Educators Role with Education Technology

Computer technology is renovating the design, evaluation, and delivery of nursing education. With technology combined with nursing education curriculum, our nurse educators are encountering new assets related to the Teams application, student interaction, and scenario testing. As these new technologies are being developed and established, critical questions for nurse educators arise. Our organizations aligned with our educators must decide how to develop the new types of technology that will always stay the course of our mission and vision. The nurse educator’s role in implementing proposed educational technology changes is to have an agenda when preparing a class. According to Dack & Roe in 2019, one example the nurse can do is to dedicate some time to get to know the staff and department workflow. They should try their best to provide some familiarization. Allowing at least 15 minutes for this is good if this is the first time the students have used Teams. If they are familiar, it is recommended that the educator may still need to allow a few minutes.

Technology and the Future of Nursing

Significant movements in technology are recognized that have impacted medical professionals, practices of nursing, and nursing education over the next 10 years. Microsoft Teams is the wave of the future, which has bridged the gap during these troubled pandemic times. The complication of educational modifications can post many obstacles in the during a fast practice change and turnover. During the pandemic crisis, many organizations including ours had to scramble our resources to continue to work. Nurse educators and staff are encouraged to consider the tools of Microsoft Teams- not face to face meetings, to continue all areas for curriculum development (Vergés Bausili, 2021). Along with offered virtual classes from our hospital, our nurses already employed, should also be offered continuing educational avenues to improve a wide range of professional technological skills. The future our organizations staff 10 years from now will most likely reside in different and evolved practices then what currently exists today, and computer technology will without a doubt be significant role in this transformation. Old and new nurse educators have to prepare now to lead educations of the future.
