MGT 660 Topic 2 CLC-External Factor Evaluation Matrix and Competitive Profile Matrix
This is a Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) assignment.
Throughout this course, you will work in a CLC group on a strategic case analysis project. This project consists of different parts you will complete each week that build on each other.
Go to the Strategy Club website and review the Sample Strategic Plan for Colgate-Palmolive (2019) under the student resources section. This sample strategic plan is an example of what your completed strategic case analysis should look like at the end of the course
An essential part of strategic analysis is identifying, evaluating, and selecting strategies. The Strategy-Formulation Analytical Framework assists you in this process. This framework consists of three stages and nine tools. See Chapter 6 in the David text for an explanation of this framework. Over the next few topics in the course, your CLC group will use many of these nine tools.
In this assignment, you will use two of these tools by completing the following:
Part 1: External Factor Evaluation (EFE) Matrix
Create an External Factor Evaluation Matrix for the CLC group’s selected company by completing the following steps:
Step 1: See Chapter 3 of the David text to learn how to complete an EFE Matrix.
Step 2: Open your Strategic-Planning Template you started in Topic 1. Click on the EFE tab at the bottom of the template.
Step 3: Complete the matrix using the external opportunities and threats you identified in the Topic 1 assignment. Make sure the factors you include are actionable, quantitative, comparative, and specific.
Step 4: Use the online sources listed in Table 3-7 located in Chapter 3 of the David text to assist you with your analysis and calculations. Be sure not to include strategies as opportunities; but do include as many monetary amounts, percentages, numbers, and ratios as possible.
Step 5: In 250-350 words, write a brief explanation of the findings and implications of the data identified in the EFE Matrix. See the Sample Strategic Plan for Colgate-Palmolive (2019) as an example.
Part 2: Competitive Profile Matrix (CPM)
Develop a Competitive Profile Matrix for your CLC group’s selected company. Complete the following steps.
Step 1: Refer to Chapter 3 of the David text to learn how to complete an CPM Matrix.
Step 2: Open your Strategic-Planning Template. Click on the CPM tab at the bottom of the template.
Step 3: Refer back to the information provided for the team’s project case that you initially reviewed in at the beginning of the Topic 1 assignment and review the section on competitors. Also view online resources that compare the company with their primary competitor, or, if possible, two closest competitors. You should also use the sources listed in Table 3-7.
Step 4: Prepare a CPM that includes the team’s company and two primary competitors.
Step 5: In 250-350 words, write a brief explanation of the findings and implications of the data identified in the CPM. See the Sample Strategic Plan for Colgate-Palmolive (2019) as an example.
Submit the EFE Matrix, CPM and the brief explanation of implications of each and what it means to the company. What steps could be taken to improve the company’s competitive advantage? (500-700 words) Submit all parts of the assignment as one deliverable.
Be sure to cite three to five relevant and credible sources in support of your content. Use only sources found at the GCU Library, corporate websites, or those provided in Topic Materials.
