NURSE-PATIENT RELATIONSHIP MODEL IN THE ACUTE CARE HOSPITAL
Patients in the acute care setting are adjusting to their current illness and the nurse is retrieving pertinent information all in a short time frame.
Initially they meet as strangers, but their roles develop when nurses provide respect and a positive approach with each patient interaction.
The nurse performs patient assessments, health team collaboration, care planning and interactions during patient cares.
Appling therapeutic communication with patients the nurse can provide reflective and nonjudgmental feedback.
Patients are discharged once they demonstrate disease management and have a plan for recovery at home.
